Artist's Description

The corner rooms in the outer wall of the San Jose Mission were part of the defenses. The circular windows allowed cannons to be used to protect the inhabitants during battles. This mission near San Antonio, Texas was known as the Queen of the Missions. Today it is still an active parish in addition to housing the headquarters of the national Park Service Visitors Center for the 5 remaining missions which are national historic monuments.
Using available light, this photograph was taken using the floor of the room as my tripod!
