Artist's Description

Zoya (standing) and Grom (lying down) are two Amur Tiger cubs at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. Zoya’s mother did not take to her so it fell to the staff to raise her, and after 3 months she was too big for anyone to be in there with her. Grom has a very similar story except he is from Pittsburgh Zoo. He is one month older than her and when they were 7 & 6 months old respectively, he came to live with her. They get along very well and enjoy playing out in the big yard on the weekends. Zoya will be 1 year in June and Grom is 1 year now.

Amur tigers are extremely endangered due to habitat loss. Their land is becoming too fragmented and more and more tigers are being killed for killing farmers livestock to feed their young. Cubs reach their full adult size by 2 years of age, and females hit sexual maturity at 3 years, males at 5 years or so.
