Artist's Description

Various fishes from the London Clays community of the Ypresian epoch. They all went extinct due to the total collapse of the marine ecosystem thanks to the introduction of the “kipper.”

Top is <I>Argillichthys toobsi</i>, a close relative of the modern-day lancetfish (<I>Alepisaurus</i>).
Below it is a pair of <I>Beerichthys ingens</i>, a largely mysterious fish known only from six incomplete skulls. It is believed to be either a louvar, or a louvar-like fish.
The thin fish are snake mackerels, <I>Progempylus edwardsi</i>.
At the bottom is a swordfish, <I>Xiphiorhynchus priscus</i>
