Love is for Idealists, Who Live in Dreams

Love exists for idealist
Who live comfortably in their dreams
Too busy with the beauty that surrounds
To test the validity that bounds

Limits and pain create jaded adults
After realizing that the world outside
Is out of their control, and really inside
Waking up from the dream is attempted

The inability to wake up creates anxiety
Fighting and running from the dream
Attempting to confirm what is real
Only distorts how to feel

The adult can fight harder for truth
Or give into the dream and chase beauty
But the jaded adult has trouble staying consistent
Questions will emerge that challenge the dream

The rush of love will bring out the inner child
Hope and comfort will almost overwhelm
Feeling silly, immature, unconfident will accompany
And eventually the question of truth will emerge

The fear of realizing that this is false
Will make the dream more scattered
The dreamer more alone
Am I living a lie; to myself, to the other?

Are relationships truly about transcending isolation?
Or not about the joining of two
But instead the winning of one
A power struggle for who needs the other more

Looking in the mirror
I ask myself who am I
The jaded realist
Or the idealist dreaming
