Artist's Description

Tent cities clogged the bitter cold streets of Kiev during the Orange Revolution. Hundreds of thousands of people, so close you could smell their hair, warmed themselves by trash can fires, awaiting with anticipation their highest court’s decision. With the world watching at almost midnight, a massive television screen set Independence Square to glowing as Ukraine’s Chief Justice announced the indicting of the Prime Minister on twelve counts of election fraud. There would be another election. Wearing the color orange wherever they could hang or pin it, people cheered, cried, and ran through the streets in celebration. Turning just in time to click this picture, a young man ran by waving his nation’s banner and tears filled my eyes as I remembered the struggle that was once America’s also. We must always celebrate freedom.
