Remembering You, In the Theatre

I remember you
in the theatre—
shiny mylar circles at our feet—
colored paper strings
falling from the sky,
how your hands
bent a little at the wrist
when you clapped like
a child at Barnum and Bailey.

I remember how relaxed you were,
there in the fourth row,
comfortable and slumped a little
in your auditorium seat
with your legs crossed.

You reminded me so much
of my brother watching the
Three Stooges on the floor
in the living room,
when we were young.
He would laugh ’til he cried,
slapping his knee.

So much about you is still young.I want you to know that.

I remember thinking,
Who is this man?
I thought I would
recognize him
after seven years
of talk,
of writing,
of erotica.
