A huge mound of jelly

When our sister Mabel was seventy one,

She was sure her life was almost done.

She was old and oh so very fat!

She only could blame herself for that.

At any odd hour she’d take a pill,

Until she began to feel very ill.

One night when her sisters had both retired,

She collapsed in the hall and quietly expired.

Next morn all that was left was a huge mound of jelly,

Said Nell “Look it has eyes, mouth and a hole in it’s belly”.

Said she "Looks like Mabel to me,

that is as far as I can see".

Nell hobbled downstairs and got the bin,

Wrapped Mabel up in Alfoil and dropped her in.

Said she "There’ll be no funeral and nothing to pay,

And the dustman comes the very next day.

We know what we’ve done is all for the best

And all Mabel’s troubles will now be at rest’.

Artist's Description

I actually didn’t write this.

It was written by my Great Aunt who was born in 1893. She died in her nineties with out ever giving birth. Except perhaps to her curious writings.

Mum sent me this the other day and I thought I’d pop it up here because it gave me a chuckle and hopefully will you too.
