Artist's Description

is affectionate
the flower of the meek,
a hug from afar.
one day the deer heard the great spirit calling for it from the top of the sacred mountain. deer immediately began her journey, not imagining that a terrible demon was taking the path that led to the abode of the great spirit. the devil was trying to prevent all creatures from approaching the great spirit. this demon wanted all living beings to think that the great spirit did not want to be disturbed. this made the devil satisfied, for he felt powerful and frightening.
the little deer felt no fear, nor was she frightened when she came upon the demon, the archetype of the most horrible of the demons that had ever existed. the demon spat fire and smoke on the deer and tried to frighten it with terrible screams.
any other creature would have died of fear or tried to escape as quickly as possible, but deer did none of this. she merely asked the devil kindly:
- Let me through, please. I’m going to see the great spirit.
Deer’s eyes were filled with love and compassion for this devil so great and so ugly … the devil was utterly baffled by deer’s attitude and her own inability to frighten her. nothing he could try could frighten her, for deer’s love had penetrated her sad, ugly, and hardened heart.
to the demon’s own consternation, his stone heart began to soften with the lingering love and gentleness of the deer, so that the demon’s once gigantic body shrank to the size of a walnut shell. the love, compassion and affection personified by the deer paved the way so that all the children of the great spirit could from then on reach the top of the sacred mountain without the demons of fear being able to prevent its passage.
deer teaches us to use the power of kindness to touch the hearts and minds of all beings bruised by existence, and who are always trying to keep us from the sacred mountain. just as there are small white and black spots on the deer’s fur, we must accept to love both light and darkness to be able to create a world of love and safety for all those who seek peace.
if deer was kind enough to make way for your letters today, this is a sign that you are being asked to awaken within yourself the love and tenderness that can heal any wound. stop trying to change others by force and try to love them the way they are. use the kindness to solve your current dilemmas and return to being like the summer breeze: warm and caressing. this is the best solution to your problems, and if you employ this tactic, the path will be free for you to reach the sacred mountain, your refuge of balance and serenity, from which you will be guided by the great spirit.
