Artist's Description

Iroko

He was the first son of Oxalá and is considered one of the oldest of the Orixás. Iroko is associated with a tree that has its own characteristics: determination and inflexibility. There is a legend that tells that Iroko was the only tree that would have survived on the planet, devastated by a drought that occurred because of a fight between Ceú and Earth. Because it is very large, its roots are well buried in the soil, giving stability. Its crown is in the heights of heaven. In Brazil, the tree of Iroko is the white gameleira. The sons of this Orixá seek to be stable in all situations. At work, they are dedicated and so they can impose a lot of respect. But in personal relationships, they sometimes end up in embarrassing situations, because they believe only in themselves and do not give others the opportunity to express their opinions.
