Artist's Description

Featured in A Leicestershire, Rutland & Northants Showcase – 8 Oct 2010

Leicestershire, England.

14-tonne iron mould which created the most famous bell at St Paul’s Cathedral in Loughborough’s market place.

The cast was only used once in 1881 to forge The Great Paul Bell – which hangs at the distinguished cathedral in the city of London.

The cast was then dismantled and put into storage at Taylor’s Bell Foundry, in Freehold Street, Loughborough. But now a 75-tonne crane has lifted the iron giant from its home at the bell foundry and onto the back of a flatbed truck.

The Great Paul Bell was forged at bell foundry and holds the title for the largest bell in the country. It weighs 16-and-a-half tonnes.
