Artist's Description

Oxford University is home to a new vivisection laboratory and this has caused outrage within animals rights circles, with permenant encampments of anti-vivisection campaigners and protests daily.

This vocal protest circled the shopping area all day, using a loud halier to spread its message. The protesters have even taken a monkey named Felix as a kind of mascot for their cause, a martyr to this contentious form of scientific experimentation.

It’s a very odd, surreal scene seeing people like this mixing it with another passionate UK citizen – the highstreet shopper.

I like the way the woman at the front is hiding behind the image of the monkey. Doesn’t she want to be spotted or are we to take it that she is now the embodiment of Felix the monkey?

I wonder what Felix would have said if he could talk?
