Soldier of Grace

A little boy is sitting on the ground,
abandoned and alone.
And as the shots ring out,
he hears a different tone.
No longer is it hate he hears,
from the weapons spewing lead.
What he hears is something worse,
a love for war instead.
And as the battle came to his street,
the boy began to cry.
Sobbing once again that he,
was in peril and might die.
And with tear stained cheeks and though blood shot eyes,
he saw what might be a man.
The shape was moving forward,
heading for the cover of a van.
Others moved up behind him,
and the firing finally quit.
The man rushed to the young boy’s side,
and the boy finally ended his fit.
The man said that he was brave,
as the kid picked up his toy.
Then the soldier walked away,
carrying the boy.
