In celebration off the Melbourne Victory’s amazingly successful 2006/07 season, i put together this piece and gave it to my brother for his birthday earlier this year.

Unfortunately, i didn’t take the pictures (although i got the rights for their usage) in this piece, but it’s my design and to date, one of my favourite pieces.

The four pictures are (clockwise)

1. 17th December 2006
Melbourne Victory played New Zealand Knights. With a win guaranteeing our first Premiership, Melbourne scored 4 goals to beat NZ and the celebration kicked off on the Terrace. The night was full of highlights including having the whole stadium involved in a chant, 2 goals to Danny Allsopp & singing and celebrating around the players rooms.

This photo is from the first half, after going 2 goals up. The Premiership banner was produced and several verses of “We are Premiers” were sung.

2. 28th January 2007
After winning the Premiership, Melbourne Victory faced Adelaide United in the first week of the finals. This was Melbourne’s first final in the A League and a very special moment for Victory fans. This day is special on a personal level, as i had decided i could not afford to make the trip to Adelaide. A phone call at 11pm the week before the game from my brother advised me he had purchased a flight for himself and I.

This shot is from early on in the match when a flare was let off amongst the 1000 Melbourne supporters who traveled to Adelaide that match.

3. 18 February 2007
Grand Final Day! This shot is of the wonderful Tifo display set up by the BWB as the players take the field. Melbourne’s first grand final, and a crowd that broke all domestic football records. It was a special moment what was to only get better.

4. 18 February 2007
90 minutes later, and 5 goals from Archie Thompson meant that Melbourne had done what no club had done before. Won the domestic A League double of Premiership & Championship. It was a hot day, and sweaty hugs were had by all!

This shot was taken after the players were presented with trophy’s and medal’s.

It was a magical season, one i will not forget soon. Interstate trips, last minute equalisers, last minute winners, last minute flights, mates and a common bond with my brother… This piece represents all that.
