strange civility

maybe it’s the smell of blacktop
or the canopy of looming structures
of brick mortar and steel
that summons some animal
hungry for warmth stalking freedom with rabid conviction
the animal that is soothed only by the cities songs
because when lady sings the blues it listenes
hoping her whiskey soaked soliloquies
can ease it back into that void from which it came
but she sings so seldom now
she’s getting old and tired
of the same old song
tired of soothing these vicious animals
rattiling thier cages for encores throwing their
waste at her feet loving her agony cause
that’s what makes her sing
or maybe it’s just the strange nature of strange creatures
