My Erin go bragh

If my blood must spill tomorrow
in foreign fields afar
will you promise to bring me home
to my beloved Erin go bragh
and when I die tomorrow
will you feel my toil and pain
will you walk next my coffin
will you lay me next the slain
will you award me with a medal
will you flank my bury hole
will you fire a leaded volley
will you praise my hardened soul
will you pray while I am lowered
will you cast a rose on me
will you hold my children close
while they shed a tear for me
will the bugler raise his arm and play
the ‘flowers of the forest’ this momentous day

will you mark my grave with colours
will you add a white stone cross
will you tend the ground for years to come
or will it cover up with moss
will you fill the void in my mother’s life
will you help them through
my kids, my wife
will you give them joy and love and hope
while they ‘struggle on’ and try to cope

will you learn from your transgressions
will you promise me this day
that what i’ve done is not in vain
and that this war will go away
‘cus I lie here for cause so true
for your ancient flag red, white and blue
I do not regret that I lie here
within that soil that I hold so dear
but beloved Country hear me from where I lie
make peace not war so no more might die
build our Church and groom our youth
on values old and ancient truths
that they might grow to honour you
and keep our nation strong and true.
