Tap Into The Power

In my first few months of early sobriety,
I learned that a few things needed priority.
I set my boundaries, that I would not cross,
attended lots of meetings when ever I felt loss.
I learned to listen and listened to learn,
open up the clubroom when it was my turn.
Chaired the meeting if I was asked that day,
I knew if I were to stay sober, it had to be that way

I learned that A.A. was a " We " program,
that was at first, very hard to understand.
I thought that this was all about me,
I’m the one in trouble can’t you all see.
When I heard it explained to me out loud,
I’m only one in a very large crowd.
I was told that , that “ISM”, you will have to smash,
that is what caused you to burn and crash

“OK , Shit now I’m really confused”, I said.
What does that have to do with if I’m alive or dead ?
We are here because, We have the same afflictions,
and it is not even at all about our hurtful addictions.
It is all about what is way deep down inside,
all that shame and fear you keep trying to hide.
It is all that hurt you built up over the years,
the resentments, hates and all of your fears

“How do you know all of that about me”?
My sponsor said , the “ISM” means .. I, Self, Me!
Our Egos cut us off from our spiritual light ,
it keeps us in constant daily fear and flight.
We looked for ways to fill up that gaping hole ,
when all we wanted was to feel useful and whole.
The craving took hold and the obsession was worst,
we would do anything to satisfy the awful thirst

Alcohol and drugs became our daily crutch,
it was the only way we could stay in touch.
We had to have it regardless of what we lost,
family …jobs…health….money, at any cost.
Many get to the point they can not go another day,
end up in institutions or do themselves away.
Some of us lucky ones make it in A.A.’s door,
before being found un-treatable any more

Now you need to take action, and really surrender,
admit you are alcoholic and sensitive and tender.
Your actions were your very downfall and demise,
you are all caught up in your scams and lies.
Find a Higher Power of your own understanding,
one that is loving, kind and not demanding.
Make a honest decision to turn over your will,
and believe that He stands beside you even still

With rigorous honesty you must start your step four,
make all your lists of resentments, fears and more.
Whenever the hurts and fears get in your way,
get down upon your knees and begin to pray .
Do your step four prayer and Ask God for some insight,
ask for His help to search out the flaws that make you fight.
Remember that resentments are the “number one offender”,
it destroys more alcoholics than any other contender

Once you have every thing written down to see,
you go back over it and consider it very carefully.
Notice the more we fought to have our own way,
the worse matters grew every single day.
As in war , the victor only seemed to win,
Our moments of triumphs were short-lived and slim.
If we are to live we must be free of anger, that’s a must.
We find someone to do our step five , that we could trust

Prepare yourself for a long talk and forget that mask,
talk about ever dark corner of your past.
Pocket your pride and get right to it,
no need to worry just …. do it,do it ,do it.
If you were honest and willing and told the whole story,
buy the time you are done you can bask in God’s glory

Artist's Description

If you suffer from an addiction, wither it be acohol ,drugs, sex or whatever your addiction is , that is not the problem ! The problem is , "The Consecious Seperation from the Spirit ". The only thing that seperates Me from God or you from God is the EGO = ISM = I – SELF- ME . So if we “uncover” our past. We “discover” who and what we are. Then we “discard” the self = ISM. This process opens us up for the Spirit to flow through us and for us to tap into that power . We then trust infinite God rather than our finite selves. We are in this world to play the role He assigns.
