Artist's Description

WHILE I WAS AT THE YOLO SPORTSMANS ASSOCIATION IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO, I GOT THE CHANCE TO SEE A MILITARY VERSION OF A CESSNA,,,,,SOMETHING. I SAY SOMETHING, BECAUSE I DON’T KNOW THE DESIGNATION THAT WAS GIVEN TO THIS PLANE. I JUST KNOW IT WAS A CESSNA. I ALSO KNOW THAT THIS PLANE WAS USED IN VIET NAM FOR HELPING MARK BOMB ZONES FOR INCOMING BOMBING RAIDES. AS A SPOTTER, THE PILOT COULD GIVE REPORTS ON HOW WELL BOMBING RAIDS WENT AS WELL AS ARTILLARY ROUNDS HITTING THEIR TARGETS. I LIKE PLANES LIKE THIS, BECAUSE THEIR PILOTS ARE KNOWN FOR “FLYING LOW AND SLOW” AND PUTTING THEMSELVES IN HARMS WAY. THIS SHOT WAS TAKEN IN COLOR WITH MY CANON EOS DIGITAL KISS REBEL 300D. I WAS USING MY 70-300 MM F:4-5.6:1 AF TELEPHOTO ZOOM LENS. THIS SHOT WAS TAKEN AT 300 MM, F:7:1, THE SHUTTER WAS SET BY THE CAMERA AT 1/400 OF A SECOND. UNFORTUNATELY, THAT IS TOO FAST TO SHOW PROPELLAR MOVEMENT, SO THE PROP LOOKS LIKE IT ISN’T MOVING AT ALL, WHEN IN REALITY, IT COULDN’T GO ANYWHERE WHITHOUT THAT PROP SPINNING. MORE OFTEN THAN NOT, PILOTS WOULD BRING THEIR PLANES HOME WITH 30 CALLIBER BULLET HOLES IN THEM, BECAUSE THE PILOT WOULD FLY SO LOW THAT THE VIET CONG COULD SHOOT AT THEM WITH THEIR AK-47’S AND WHAT EVER ELSE SIZE GUNS THEY COULD FIND.
