ON SATURDAY, JANUARY 31, 2009, I TOOK SEVERAL PHOTOS OF A STEARMAN PT-17, AS HE MADE HIS FINAL APPROACH AT THE YOLO COUNTY AIRPORT NEAR DAVIS CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES. WELL, I TOOK SO MANY SHOTS, THAT I DECIDED TO SEE IF I COULD COME UP WITH A COMPILATION OF IMAGES AND MAKE IT LOOK SOMETHING LIKE ANDY WARHOLL’S WORK, ONLY MINE, NOT HIS. SO, I STARTED BY ADDING THE TOP IMAGE OF THE STEARMAN IN THE APPROACH COMPILATION AND THEN I ADDED DIFFERENT SHOTS THAT I DID IN ADOBE PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS 2.0 TO MAKE THEM ALL DIFFERENT FROM EACH OTHER. THE SHOT IN THE CENTER BOTTOM, REMINDS ME OF A WORLD WAR II MOVIE, WHERE A BELLY TURRET GUNNER ON A B-17 FLYING FORTRESS, WAS TRAPPED IN HIS TURRET AND BEING AN ARTIST, HE ALWAYS HAD HIS DRAWING PAD WITH HIM. SO, RATHER THAN GIVE IN TO THE IDEA THAT HE WAS GOING TO DIE WHEN THE B-17 LANDED, HE DREW REAL LONG LANDING GEAR ON THE IMAGE OF THE B-17 THAT HE HAD DRAWN AND CLUTCHED THE IMAGE IN HIS ARMS AND KEPT REPEATING TO HIMSELF, I BELIEVE, I BELIEVE, I BELIEVE. WELL WHADDA YANO, OUT POPS THESE CARTOON LANDING GEAR ON THE BOMBER AND THEY MAKE A SAFE LANDING. AFTER GENGERLY REMOVING THE TRAPPED GUNNER FROM HIS BELLY TURRET, THE GUNNER OPENED HIS EYES AND THE
LANDING GEAR DISAPPEARED AND THE PLANE CAME FALLING DOWN, CRUSHING THE TURRET. IF MEMORY SERVES, THAT WAS A TWIGHTLIGHT ZONE STORY. BUT, HEY, LIKE THEY SAY, IF YOU BELIEVE HARD ENOUGH, YOU CAN MAKE ANYTHING HAPPEN. I USED MY CANON EOS KISS REBEL 300D AND MY QUANTARAY 70-300MM TELEPHOTO LENS TO GET THE LANDING SHOTS. THE TOP SECTION OF THIS IMAGE, IS A PT-17 ON APPROACH AT YOLO AIRPORT, I TOOK SEVERAL SHOTS IN ORDER TO ACCOMPLISH THIS PANORAMA SHOT. I THEN TOOK ONE OR TWO IMAGES TO MAKE THE REST OF THE COMPILATION AND JUST CHANGED THEM AROUND TO MAKE UP THE DIFFERENT LOOKS TO THE STEARMAN BIPLANE. I ALSO GOT THE PLANES DESIGNATION WRONG IN THE LOWER, CENTER IMAGE. IT’S NOT A PT-13, IT’S A PT-17, OH WELL, WE ALL MAKE MISTAKES WE CAN’T FIX. THIS MISTAKE WILL BE IN THIS IMAGE FOR A LONGO TIMEO. ALTHOUGH, I GUESS I COULD GO BACK INTO PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS 9.0 AND COMPLETELY COVER UP THE MISTAKE AND CORRECT IT. OH WELL, AS LONG AS I KNOW I MESSED UP.
