ON DECEMBER 21, 2008, I WENT FISHING AT MY FAVORITE SPOT. IT IS A FISHING DECK ATTACHED TO A FISHING SHACK, WITH A WOOD BURNING STOVE AND SATALITE TV. I ALWAYS TAKE MY CAMERA WITH ME WHEN I GO FISHING, BUT I DON’T ALWAYS TAKE PHOTOS. WELL, TODAY A FLOCK OF SNOW GEESE CAME FLYING INTO MY AREA AND THAT MEANT I HAD TO BREAK OUT THE CAMERA. NORMALLY, THE GEESE FLY AWAY FROM ME AND MAKE IT HARD TO GET GOOD SHOTS. SO, WHEN THEY CAME FLYING RIGHT OVER MY HEAD I KNEW I HAD SOME SHOTS THAT WERE GOING TO BE USEFULL. WITH THIS SHOT OF FOUR SNOW GEESE UP CLOSE, I WAS ABLE TO CLONE THE FOUR AND MAKE “GHOSTLY IMAGES OF PAST FLOCKS”, SHOW UP AROUND THE SKY. I LOOK AT IT AND WONDER JUST WHAT IT WOULD BE LIKE IF THE SKY WAS FULL OF BIRDS, THE WAY IT USED TO BE 70 YEARS OR SO AGO. I WAS ALSO ABLE TO CHANGE THE GREY CLOUD FILLED SKY TO A SOLID BLUE, GIVING THE SHOT A LITTLE MORE COLOR. I WASN’T SURE WHAT I WAS GOING TO CALL THIS SHOT, UNTIL IT SPOKE TO ME JUST BEFORE I UPLOADED IT TO REDBUBBLE. WITH ALL THE SNOW GEESE FLYING AROUND THIS DAY, I WAS SURPRISED I DIDN’T HEAR MORE SHOTGUNS GOING OFF. ESPECIALLY ON JOYCE ISLAND WHICH IS NEXT TO MONTEZUMA SLOUGH AND ACROSS FROM GRIZZLY ISLAND. THESE ARE ALL LOCATED NEAR SUISUN CALIFORNIA IN THE SACRAMENTO DELTA WATERWAY SYSTEM. WE HAVE THE LARGEST NATURAL ESTUAREY IN THE UNITED STATES AND IT IS FILLED WITH ALL SORTS OF BIRDS AND WILD LIFE. INCLUDING TOOLIE ELK, THE SMALLEST OF THE ELK FAMILY. EVERY NOW AND THEN I EVEN GET TO SEE BALD EAGLES, NOT OFTEN OR MANY, BUT AT LEAST THEY COME AROUND TOO. THE ORIGINAL IMAGE OF THESE SNOW GEESE WAS TAKEN WITH MY CANON EOS KISS REBEL 300D AND MY NOW TRASHED QUANTARAY 70-300MM AF MACRO TELEPHOTO F:4/5.6:1 LENS. FOR SOME REASON, I COULD TAKE ONE SHOT, THEN MY CAMERA WOULD SHOW “ERROR” ON MY VIEW SCREEN ON THE BACK OF THE CAMERA. I WAS WORRIED THAT IT MIGHT BE MY CAMERA, SO I CHANGED LENSES TO MAKE SURE. WELL, THANK GOD, IT WAS JUST THE LENS AND NOT THE CAMERA ITSELF. SO, I PURCHASED A NEW CANON 75-300 AF MACRO ULTRASONIC LENS AND I THROUGH THE QUANTARAY LENS OUT THE DRIVERS WINDOW, WHILE DOING 65 MPH ON A COUNTRY ROAD. AS I WATCHED IT BOUNCE DOWN THE ROAD AND INTO THE WEEDS ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, LEAVING SMALL PIECES HERE AND THERE, I THOUGHT TO MYSELF, SOMEONE IS GOING TO FIND THIS LENS AND THINK,,,I BET SOMEONE LEFT THIS ON THE ROOF OF THEIR VEHICLE AND FORGOT ABOUT IT,,WAIT UNTIL THEY GO TO LOOK FOR IT AND CAN’T FIND IT IN THEIR CAMERA BAG. WELL, THE JOKE WILL BE ON THEM, I TOSSED IT DELIBERATELY,,,,,IT WAS A FITTING END FOR A PIECE OF JUNK CAMERA EQUIPMENT.
