Artist's Description

WHEN I GO FISHING IN THE SACRAMENTO DELTA NEAR FAIRFIELD CALIFORNIA, I SOMETIMES ENCOUNTER LOTS OF DRIFTING SPIDER SAILS. THAT IS A SPIDER WEB STRING DRIFTING ALONG WITH THE WIND AND USUALLY HAS A SMALL SPIDER ATTACHED TO IT,,,,,,,,,,SOMEWHERE. MOST OF THE TIME THEY ARE SMALL LITTLE BLACK SPIDERS AND THERE ARE SO MANY OF THEM, THEY BECOME A BOTHER. BECAUSE THEY MAKE SUCH A MESS. WELL, THIS PARTICULAR DAY, I NOTICED A LARGER THAN NORMAL SPIDER, SITTING ON THE TIP EYE OF MY FISHING ROD. SO, I BROKE OUT MY MACRO LENS WITH MY EOS DIGITAL AND PROCEDED TO TRY AND CATCH A SHOT OF THAT LITTLE SPIDER ON THE ROD. TO GIVE YOU AN IDEA OF HOW SMALL THAT SPIDER IS, OR WAS, LOOK AT THE FISHING LINE. IF YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT FISHING LINE, YOU MIGHT KNOW WHAT CAJON LINE IS. WELL THIS WAS 20 POUND TEST LINE AND IT HAS A FAIRLY NOTICEABLE LINE THICKNESS. BUT, WHEN MACRO PHOTOGRAPHED, THE LINE LOOKS HUGE. WHEN I SAW THIS SHOT AND WORKED WITH IT A LITTLE BIT IN ADOBE PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS 2.0, IT TOLD ME IT’S NAME. IT SAID I AM “SPIDER EYE”, WHICH IS KIND OF IRONIC SINCE SPIDERS HAVE EIGHT EYES, SO THEY ARE PLOURAL NOT SINGULAR. ANYWAY. THIS WAS A SMALL SPIDER TO SAY THE LEAST, I WAS SURPRISED TO SEE HIM AS WELL AS I COULD IN THE SHOT ONCE I STARTED LOOKING AT HIM.
