Artist's Description

IN 1984-85 I WAS TAKING BLACK AND WHITE PHOTO LAB CLASSES AT A LOCAL COMMUNITY COLLEGE IN SOLANO COUNTY, NORTHERN CALIFORNIA. ALL THE WHILE, LOVING COLOR MORE THAN B&W, I KEPT SHOOTING MY COLOR SHOTS. WHEN I WAS DRIVING AROUND TOWN THIS NIGHT, I SAW THE LIGHT SHINNING THROUGH THE TREE, DOWN ON “THIS LONELY PARK BENCH”. SO I SET UP MY TRIPOD, ATTACHED MY REMOTE ELECTRONIC SHUTTER, AND LET THE CAMERA DO THE REST. WITH A SLIGHTLY SLOWER SHUTTER SPEED TO COMPENSATE FOR THE LACK OF LIGHT TO THE LENS, THE CAMERA PICKED UP THE MOVEMENT OF THE TREE BLOWING IN THE BREEZE. I LIKE THE AFFECT THE LIGHT PLAYS IN THE PHOTO, AS IF TO TELL YOU COME SIT HERE, DON’T GO INTO THE DARK. THE BENCH JUST SEEMS SO LONELY THEIR WITH NO ONE TO SIT ON IT, INCAPABLE OF DOING IT’S JOB DUE TO LACK OF PARTICIPANTS. THIS PHOTO WAS DONE ON 35MM FILM AND SCANNED INTO MY COMPUTER.
