Artist's Description

IN THIS DECEMBER SUNRISE, THE REFLECTING LIGHT ALMOST LOOKS LIKE LAVA RUNNING ACROSS THE GROUND. IT IS ACTUALLY SHINING OFF THE WATER ON A 240 ACRE DUCK POND, ON GRIZZLY ISLAND IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIAS DELTA SYSTEM. THIS AREA IS THE HOME TO THE LARGEST NATURAL ESTUARY IN THE UNITED STATES, WITH OVER 1,000 MILES OF WATERWAYS. I HAVE BEEN FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO GROW UP CLOSE TO THESE WATERS AND I KNOW THEM WELL ENOUGH THAT I CAN BOAT AROUND WITHOUT GETTING LOST. I DON’T RECOMMEND ANYONE GO INTO THESE WATERS WITHOUT A COMPASS, A DEPTH GAUGE OF SOME SORT, USUALLY A FISH FINDER WILL ALSO DISPLAY DEPTH AND A MAP OF THE WATERS THEY ARE BOATING IN. ALL IT TAKES IS ONE WRONG TURN AND YOU ARE EITHER LOST OR STUCK IN THE MUD SOMEPLACE AT LOW TIDE.
