Artist's Description

THIS SHOT WAS TAKEN IN 1978, IN VACAVILLE CALIFORNIA, FROM A GAS STATION ACROSS THE STREET ON EAST MONTE VISTA AVENUE AT THE NUT TREE TOURIST TRAP. THIS SIGN HAS BEEN REPLACED WITH A NEWER SMALLER ONE, THE SHELL GAS STATION WAS TORN DOWN ABOUT 10 YEARS AGO AND THE LIGHT POLE IS NO LONGER THERE EITHER, SINCE EAST MONTE VISTA AVENUE HAS BEEN RE-ROUTED AND EXPANDED FOR THE NEWER NUT TREE TOURIST TRAP. FORTUNATELY THE MOON IS STILL THERE AND DOING IT’S BEST TO MESMORRIZE US EACH TIME IT WANES ACROSS THE SKY. I TOOK THIS SHOT WITH A CANON F-1, A CANON 100-200 TELEPHOTO F:5.6 LENS AND KODAK 100ASA COLOR FILM. I SCANNED THE 3X5 PHOTO INTO MY COMPUTER AND COLOR CORRECTED IT. I HAD ONLY BEEN TAKING PICTURES FOR ABOUT 4 YEARS WHEN I TOOK THIS SHOT, I WISH I HAD PAID MORE ATTENTION TO THE TOP OF THE SIGN. IT IS SUPPOSED TO READ, NUT TREE, NOT JUST TREE. I FINALLY LEARNED COMPOSITION IN THE YEARS AHEAD AND NOW, I HAVE IT DOWN PAT.
