Artist's Description

THIS IS A “FULL MOON IN CALIFORNIA”. I CALLED IT THAT BECAUSE I REALIZE THAT THERE ARE GOING TO BE LOTS MORE PHOTOS OF A FULL MOON. THIS SHOT WAS TAKEN WITH A CANON EOS DIGITAL REBEL D-300 AND A CANON 100-300 EOS AF F:5.6 LENS. I HAND HELD THIS SHOT AND SET THE LENS AND SHUTTER MANUALLY. I HAVE TRIED AUTO SETTINGS AND I FOUND THAT THE MOON WASHED OUT TOO MUCH. SO WITH A SETTING OF 1/250 SECOND SHUTTER AND F:8 APPERATURE, THE LIGHT BALLANCED OUT JUST RIGHT ON THE SURFACE AND THE CRATERS SHOW UP NICELY. MANY PEOPLE WONDER WHY THE MOONS SURFACE IS SO BRIGHT, IT IS BECAUSE IT IS BASICALLY COVERED IN GLASS DUST, NOT LIKE THE GLASS YOU MIGHT LOOK THROUGH OR DRINK OUT OF, BUT SILICA PARTICLES. UNDER THE GREAT PRESSURES OF METEORITE STRIKES, THE SILICA IS CONVERTED TO GLASS.
