Discovered this fellow in my yard. I wanted to invite him to dinner, but was fresh out of flies and midges.

“Well, what do dragonflies eat? The answer is simple. A dragonfly is an insect that eats just about anything that they find in abundance. They often hunt for food in groups when ants or termites are available in large numbers, or when there are swarms of gnats, caddisflies, or mayflies. Dragonflies keep mosquitoes at bay because they feed on them.

All species of dragonflies prefer a carnivorous diet. They are carnivorous not only in their adult stages of their life cycle but also in their larval stage. Dragonflies basically feed on small insects such as bees, butterflies, flies and midges. A dragonfly has the ability to move in different directions swiftly. Hence they can outfly their prey."
