Artist's Description

“A FRIEND IS SOMEONE
WHO KNOWS THE SONG IN YOUR HEART,
AND CAN SING IT BACK TO YOU
WHEN YOU HAVE FORGOTTON THE WORDS”

When I lived in Zurich (Switzerland) many years ago, people had to walk all the way up the hill to reach the rustic cafes at the top, and the views over Zurich were stunning – it was a hike! Nowadays there is a lovely scenic train ride to the summit of this hill and a stylish cafe/restaurant at the very top – the views are stunning!!

The Üetliberg (also spelled Uetliberg) is a mountain in the Swiss plateau, part of the Albis chain, rising to 873 m (2864 ft). The Uetliberg offers a panoramic view of the entire city of Zurich and the Lake of Zurich. There is also a hotel in the name of “Uto Kulm” on this small mountain. The two towers on the mountain are a look-out tower (rebuilt 1990) and the Uetliberg TV-tower (132 m, rebuilt 1968). The summit is easily accessible by train from Zurich.

Actually it was a very special moment that evening I went there, because I had spent the day with my dear friend Valerie in October 2010; she had been undergoing treatment for cancer – she dropped me off at the HauptBahnhof to get the Uetliberg Bahn that evening – she was lying in a hospital in Zurich when I posted this, and we didn’t know if she would come through it.
Valerie passed away in April 2011.
Each day that she was still alive, was very precious to all those who loved her.
She is such a bright soul, who has brought ‘sunshine’ to so many people. This bright coloured picture fits well.

This picture is dedicated to my friend Valerie with gratitude for her friendship, and for that happy day in October 2010.
