Artist's Description

“YOU WORK THAT YOU MAY KEEP PACE WITH THE EARTH,
AND THE SOUL OF THE EARTH.
WHEN YOU WORK, YOU ARE A FLUTE THROUGH WHOSE HEART,
THE WHISPERING OF THE HOURS, TURNS TO MUSIC”

Kahlil Gibran

The round thing is an oven to cook things in those days. The dorm type rooms housed those members of the indigenous population who chose to live and work in this developing community that was run and established by Catholic Spanish priests. The priests lived in more luxurious rooms within the main church area. This is part of Mission San Juan in San Antonio, Texas (USA), built by the Spanish when they settled in this area and began teaching and converting (religious) the indigenous people. This is part of Mission San Jose.
