Artist's Description

Other vernacular names are Christmas Star, Winter Rose and Noche Buena.
Endemic to the Pacific coast of Mexico, Central and Southern Mexico, and occurs in Guatemala. as well.

It is cultivated fort the colored bracts surrounding the rather unassuming flowers. It is popular Christmas time decoration especially in the USA and recently its popularity is increasing in and around Sydney in Australia.

In addition to the bright red form there are a number of cultivars having pinkish to yellow bracts.
