Artist's Description

Whoa, did this take a long time…

A little backstory on this composite photograph:

Had the great fortune to be able to cobble together a weeklong vacation earlier last year, to visit relatives in Florida. We usually take several boat trips, not far, in a small 13 foot Boston Whaler just down the river…

This day proved to be hot for April (nearly 90ºF), so we anchored the boat about 30 feet offshore and jumped in to cool off.

About half an hour later, I decided to document the moment with a large scale panorama, which I assembled upon our return to Quebec. This part of the project took a good 8 hours to do, and I was very happy with the results…

Then, a more ambitious idea took form, the results of which you see here:

This project took a whopping 120 hours (about 3 work weeks) to compile, spread out over a period of 8 months (April 2012 to January 2013). Its an abstract construction, fused with ideas/elements of doodles and drawings I used to make when I was in grade school.

I don’t quite know where this series will lead next – but there are about 10 separate composites that I am working on in this same vein….

Interested to hear your opinions, questions, and comments…
