Artist's Description

A quirky window display at The Britannia Panopticon Shop in High Street, Glasgow. A treasure trove of vintage clothing, antiques, books, playbills and collectables of every kind, the shop raises funds for the world’s oldest surviving music hall. Opened in 1857, Glaswegians flocked to the Britannia and later the American Museum next door to see tattooed ladies in the freak show and enjoy the roof top carnival and waxwork displays. There was even an indoor zoo. The theatre where a 16-year-old Stan Laurel first trod the boards in 1906 closed down in 1938 but is now being restored to its former glory and regularly stages traditional music hall shows as well as exhibitions.
You’ll find the Britannia Panopticon Music Hall at 113-117 Trongate and the shop at 49 High Street.
