Artist's Description

My version of the mural showing a distinctly Glaswegian interpretation of the crucifixion that hangs above the Val D’Oro Restaurant at Glasgow Cross. A young girl offers the dying Christ her bottle of Irn Bru, Scotland’s other national drink. A ned with a beer can in one hand is giving the finger with his other hand. As well as shoppers and people hurrying by there’s a pickpocket, a busker, a cripple and a drug addict shooting heroin into his groin. There’s also a man with a fish supper. Called ‘The Passion at Glasgow Cross,’ the mural is by artist David Adam, brother-in-law of the restaurant’s late owner Peter Corvi who’s shown in the foreground. I’ve added a dash of colour to the scene, with photographs of the actual clock face from the Tolbooth, a bottle of Irn Bru and the restaurant signage which includes the slogan ‘Home of the Great Glasgow Fish Tea.’
