Still shackled

When you asked for me
I came to you
when you needed me
I shared myself
when you wanted warmth
I set myself on fire
when you needed quiet
I remained silent
when you wanted another
I withdrew
when you spoke in fear
I offered comfort
when you turned away
I grieved within
when you needed freedom
I waited in hope
When you begged forgiveness
I forgave, but did not forget

Now that you are free from who and what you were
I am here, still shackled, tortured, bound by who I am

When all is said and done, it is easier to forgive, than it is to forget .

And as history tends to repeat itself, in one way or another, the shackles remain.
