Mom

Your words brought me comfort
Your soft staggered sway
You knew music and writing
I miss your council each day
Your stories brought smiles
As if they lost their way
Your hugs sent me love
Flashes of color in deepening gray

Its been years since you left us
The world bitter bleak
Since those days when you challenged me
Your approval I seek
Your fingers swollen
And your eyes comma weak
Your blips and your bleeps
Told the tale of the meek

In the moments that followed
As they wheeled you away
Teary eyed visage
Only pain could betray
Humbled by sorrow
My grieving delayed
Your husband is weeping
My father needs me this day

In strength I was stoic
Held this giant who cried
My eyes couldn’t moisten
My voice couldn’t lie
Since the night you ascended
Since that heart felt goodbye
I never recovered
Since the mourning you died.
