Artist's Description

This is a Tau Emerald Dragonfly FAMILY HEMICORDULIIDAE (I’m fairly certain but it’s hard to tell sometimes) that I found in my backyard, Brisbane, Australia on the 17th of April, 2010. I finally got a worthwhile shot of a Dragonfly after many failed attempts and cusses over them always flying away! They’re very temperamental it seems, as I’ve had to instances (one being today) where they’ll happily fly back to the same place constantly and sit still for quite some time but most of the time they tease you by flying closer and closer to you and never landing or flying away just as you crouch down to get closer or snap a shot. All the same they’re beautiful creatures :)

Taken with Canon 400D and Canon 100mm macro lens with the 20mm Kenko extension tube.

ISO: 100
Aperture: f/11
Shutter speed: 1/60 (with in-built flash)

Processed in Photoshop CS4.
