Miles Between Us

I’ve been counting down the days
to live the night that I would see you.
Let the warm night come.
Let the breeze kiss us at our face
and let every second spent with you be frozen
as if Father Time were painting a picture of us.

Explosions in the Sky play us our song
as I recite these words to you.
I have written this for you
so that you can take it with you
and hold it long after this night has perished.
Let them hold you as they twist around you like a vine,
dancing with your skin.

I’m unworthy of holding you
for you are like a fallen angel,
too beautiful for this Earth to hold
and I only wish that I had arms beautiful enough to hold you.
And you allow me to hold you
as if you were a prayer that I’m hoping would lift me
and I’m unworthy of it’s grace.

The sun has sunk down into its daily travel
to allow the moon to come rising above us
to give you the night to wear as your royal cloak.
And I will sit with you, your majesty.
Pushing away the shadows that haunt us,
and touching your scars with my lips.

I will move my mouth around you to shield you from the sparrows,
I will grip your soul with my own fist,
and I will grab the hand of Sanctity and take you with me
flowing aimlessly through the breeze,
watching our footprints slipping away behind us.
Waving our insecurities goodbye.

Love is as big as an ocean,
and your majesty,
I would sail the seven seas just to know yours.
I will circle this Earth that you hold in your soul.
I will be the blood that runs through your veins.
The oxygen pushing through your lungs
to allow you to breathe.
And I will flow through this breeze tonight with you,
just to find momentary grace
so that I can find an ocean to start sailing.

Sail it with me.
Show me the waves that you have pushed.
Show me the creatures that live inside of you.
Show me something to believe in.
Because I’m starting to believe that there’s nothing in this world
That can hold me like you do.
This ocean that you push is holding onto me
Like the night holding the sanctity
and like the sanctity that holds me
as I hold onto you.

I want to know you.
I want to know you
as if you were the only thing that would keep me alive
because this night will soon be over
as the sun comes back from its daily travel,
to circle back around to our side of the earth.
Sending the moon beneath us in it’s ancient ritual,
another execution,
making this night a ghost.
Just a memory for us to live inside of.

And when the sun comes to part us,
to send you back home,
I will let these words bleed from my tongue
and I will whisper them into your ear,
take me with you.

Take me with you
for I have already given myself to you
long before this night has come.
I have written this for you
so that you can take it with you,
and hold on to it long after this night has perished.
I have sent my hopes out like flares
praying that you will fallow them back to me.
And I have sent my prayers out a thousand times
to a thousand different angels
just make sure that I get answered.
Asking for these miles between us to someday close

So for now, take me with you,
and don’t forget this night.
For no distance, nor period of time without you,
can ever separate our hold.

I am holding onto the kiss that you have placed upon my heart,
I am holding onto the belief that you have given me
that I am holding something real,
I am still holding onto you.

Hold onto me as I hold onto you,
let my tongue bleed with reason,
take me with you
so that our hearts beat true.
