Artist's Description

Taken with a Canon 50D, Sigma 10-20 lens at 10mm, F16, shutter speed 1/50 ISO100, tweaked in Photoshop

I took this shot during my recent visit to the Yorkshire Dales over Easter. The view is under a bridge on the river Swale looking towards Richmond Castle on the hill in the distance. I thought about taking this shot for several minutes then left it for 20 minutes to see if I could get a better (less wet) shot, I then returned wading into the river with my hiking boots on….note to self don’t forget your wellies Shaun. I had cold wet feet until I got back to our cottage 45 minutes later!!

Richmond Castle, founded in 1071, is a gray stone fortress standing proudly atop a rocky spur overlooking the turbulent River Swale in Yorkshire, England. The castle’s primary purpose was, apparently, to defend Alan Rufus and his followers against attacks by the dispossessed English of the area who didn’t look too kindly upon their Norman conquerors. Except for skirmishes with Scottish raiding parties, Richmond Castle saw very little fighting.
