Artist's Description

ll the local workers are visiting the various cafes and sandwich shops to buy their lunch in The Lanes, Brighton. The Lanes are part of the original settlement of Brighthelmstone (that became Brighton) and they were built up in the late 18th century. This was partly owing to the rise of Brighton as a seaside resort and the benefit of the sea water and before George, Prince Recent who became King George IV had a royal residence constructed in Brighton (the Royal Pavilion). The Lanes are narrow, pedestrian only, and lined with shops, including many antique and jewellery shops.
