My Poor Love

… and as the wisened old woman looked down, her eyes flashed with a momentary recognition, her breath drew heavily in, her heart skipped in a worryingly familliar way and she at last knew. She, at that instant, had the answer. As the dew formed in the sparkling crevices of her eyes, her empathic pain felt so sharp, as sharp as her memories:

“My poor love,” she whispered, “My poor fool,” … she searched the moistened face of the woman before her, younger eyes yet equally tired, equally pained,
“My poor Love, you really believed she was yours? yours to keep?.. Do you not know that Love my dear… Love is not for everyone?.. Love , is not for you!”

The silence wrapped them both in its silken sheet.
