In Memory of PMC

A man who is serious with himself

knows two things:

That he must march on
through two dollar coin slots,
peep shows,
slow instrumental versions of better, much more classic days,
the sound of grilling fish,
the last night he saw her,
the last time he tried or didn’t try,
lightning storms and lesser things,
the end of beer bottles,
crowds,
sailing,
the week,
the west coast,
untidy rooms,
dried saliva on black bedsheets,
babies,
fluorescent lights flickering, struggling in a morgue,
the 42 better places the next man loved her,
the next day’s newspapers,
the next love,
the wage,
gossip,
outpouring emotion,
the letter H coming after the letter T,
surnames,
the mid morning sun charging guilt like a car battery,
the four best, the four worst he ever bought or loved or removed

and

anything else that comes his way.

A man who is serious with himself
will remember:

It is about being a bloke
which is about being
something
and nothing
and knowing it
quietly, slowly
like a Russian rocket
three feet above the floor
of the sky
while everything else
sort of tilts towards the beams
towards the last burning candle
towards the glow
towards the last burning of the light.
