Artist's Description

Few visitors to South Dakota’s Badlands National Park venture into the parks’ southern unit, which has few roads or trails. But one of the park’s most incredible overlooks lies there at the end of a 7-mile gravel road, the last 2 miles of which are too rough for anything but walking or a large four-wheel-drive vehicle. This deeply carved canyon is called Sheep Mountain Table and reveals itself only at the very end of the road. It sits within the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and is a holy site for tribe members.
