my own butterfly effect

i have forgotten so much, like
the taste of blackberries on a
scorching summers day drenched
in fresh buttercream that drips
down my fingers.

what do you want from me?
the rain stares at me
through the window as if
i should say something.

is the color of blue really lost forever
or did I just lose track of the sky?

above, a butterfly chases a kite
thinking she has found grand mother;
do we all chase the colors that
float on the wind, seeking
our roots?

i do.

i chase the spectrum hues that
never come back to me
unless i sing the fairy song
that has been sitting in my bones.

that is when I can find it all.

that is when laughter flies
back to me.
