How We Stand

You and I, two rare elements,
one of turmoil and one of pain, set to collide-
tender souls who share the warmth
that comes from knowing each the others sorrow.

I saw your facade crack and crumble away,
and stood in awe of the rawness beneath.
I always hoped that somehow, my intense love
had made a difference in your life.

You complete me.
This scarred heart, battered, patched and bruised,
leaps like the heart of a child on Christmas
each and every time you say “I love you.”

Standing on the edge of a precipice,
a gulf yawns between us, yet somehow we touch,
and I see a tiny reflection of myself
falling into the twin hazel suns that are your eyes…
