The day after the eclipse

The day after the eclipse
Little did I know
That I would be sitting
Next to the guest poet
At the Billie Holiday tribute night!
The open mic
Blazing blues and heartache
With the entire spectrum of emotions
Spilling into the full moon
I walked home
With a knot in my throat
The moon
Hanging in the deepest blue
Almost black
Lighting my path
I text you to look too
Today she demands to be seen
At first quiet and reserved
“I’m an introvert” she said

“We feel intensely”

We talked briefly
Of intuition
Of high sensitivity
Of wolf women
Of taking the stand
Though fear shakes your hands
And no spit is left in your mouth to speak
Feeling what she was feeling
Feeling what she was saying
Some people are supposed to be thin skinned
Some people are supposed to be softly spoken
Some people have no choice but to tune in
Sat at the back
Of the poetry night
Hugging the audience
With tears in their eyes
As they say thank you and good bye to her

“We feel intensely”

She reminded me of my best friend
She reminded me of family
