The Written Word

Intensity introduces visionary excitement
In the most simplict gesture
faintest sound, or silent sigh.
The heart expands at subtle expressions
of devotion and gratitude
leaving breathless demons panting
for air.

Impulsive imaginations ignnite
Beautiful sentiment and idealism
in childlike obsession and solitude.
Thesis, antithesis, point and counterpoint
all braid themselves together with conventional
verbage, just to tiptoe apart at the end
of a long thought in mid air.

Like birds in winged applause
we praise intuiton and mourn individual identity.
We twist the invisible imagery
like a tireswing unwinding, at first slow,
then faster, uncontollably scattering thoughts
like scripture among the pharisees,
open to interpretation and definition.

We desire the freedom of speech,
carrying it around in pocket books of black soil
burried beneath invasive laws that
limit creative repitition.

It is the written word that propells our
imaginations foward with the desire to
explain the treasures that can sometimes taste
like sacchraine sweetness with chocolate mint
or that might be hard to swallow like the
granules of a bitter pill.

Our world feeds on the validation of
imformation being forcefed to starved philanthropist
and shouted like your pamphlets on the street.
Deposit a nickel and recieve two sense worth in payments over the next
thousand years.

It is the passage of time that forbids

the exclusion of truth and limits diseased
minds from poluting the standards of integrity
and indignation. Compromise befriends all who
embrace ignorance.
The truth has been written in poems, sonnets,
short stories and novels. The written word will save us
or condemn us.

I guess it depends on which book you read.

Artist's Description

In this work I had hoped to create a vision of free speech in our society, or more appropriatly, the lack thereof. The words we write and the words we live by are as different as night and day. If we can write truth, why cant we live truth?
