Artist's Description

New Mexico’s Zia (Sun). The Zia is composed of four sets of rays extending outward from a center circle. All of these have a meaning: -The Center Circle represents: Moon, Home Circle, Perfect Friendship, Forever, No Beginning, No Ending, and Sun. – The right hand rays are: Infancy, Youth, Maturity, and Old Age. – The bottom rays are: Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter. -The left hand rays are: Morning, Noon, Evening, and Night. – The rays at the top are: East, West, North, and South. Simple is it not? The number four is very important among First Nations People and is very well represented in this simple yet appealing symbol.
