Hope Remains

I look outside,
To where the angels cry.
They pray for peace,
I’m on my knees.

“This Peace,”
I say
“Can it be achieved?”

They look at me,
And in their eyes I see,
A hope within,
Locked in a small tin.

“It is true,
This hope cannot be for you,
You who have lost hope!
With this world you must learn to cope.”

I look down in shame,
And think of the peace which we have maimed,
The lives which we have killed,
The cups that were never filled.

Why had I never seen,
Just what you had wanted for me?
Why had I never known,
The kindness I should have shown?
