Climbing Trees in Ribbons

Little girl me
dressed in a prison of ribbons
and Sunday dresses
hitches a scraped knee
over the branch of her favorite tree
looks up at endless
leaves and possibilities
sunshine glinting off a
patent leather toe
she climbs
looking down for a moment
at future suitors, lovers and enemies
and wonders briefly how she’ll choose
among the freckled faces and
mud-spattered shoes
already filled with the budding knowledge
that someday
she’ll want to wrap her legs
around the limbs of Men
instead of trees
and already knows
who the more faithful lover will be

Artist's Description

Inspired by the wonderful theme we seem to have going on amongst some of us involving childhood – (Ms. Poetic Soul, this means you too!); i wanted to add this little piece to the mix.
