Artist's Description

As can be seen by the uneven walls, this is a rare surviving example of an early American Adobe. Originally built by Francisco Alivso in 1854 for his wife and 10 children, the adobe was located on a 300 acre ranch. The adobe was in continuous use until 1969, the last 50 years as a dairy. While the amount of land dwindled over the years, the city of Pleasanton, CA purchased 7 acres that included the adobe. It was restored and replicas of a 1920’s dairy (reflected in the window) and bunkhouse were built. In 1998 the area was dedicated as Alviso Community Park. The adobe is also a Calif. Historical Landmark.
