Artist's Description

Built in AD 312 to commemorate Constantine’s bloody victory over his imperial rival Maxentius at the Battle of Ponte Milvio, the arch is one of the last great Roman monuments.
The Via Sacra extends up the slope in the right of the picture and leads to the Forum.
