Artist's Description

Taken on the grounds of Bacon’s Castle in Surry County Virginia.
Nathaniel Bacon, also known as America’s first patriot, supposedly held up in this house during a rebellion" in 1675.
In what was called “Bacon’s Rebellion” he led the overthrow of then Governor, Sir William Berkeley. During Bacon’s control of the government, he recognized the peoples “right to bear arms”. Not only to protect themselves from hostile indians, but to protect themselves from “despotic regimes”.
